Dick Ballinger in 1943

Following up on the Dick Ballinger article (see February 2012) John Ballinger has sent us a photograph from 1943 where Dick is a member of a British services band during WWII, at RAF Hereford. Dick is the sax player sitting at the elbow of the bass player.

Dick Ballinger and the Embassy Six

Following up on the article about Billy Sawford (2011 page) I have been contacted by John and Peter Ballinger, both sons of Dick Ballinger who played with the Embassy Six, who have provided photographs of the band(s) which you can see below.

The personnel of the Embassy Six on the Piccadilly (and Curry) records is listed as :

director Erick Orlick (banjo, guitar), T.Greenwood (trumpet), Dick Ballinger and Berg Larsen (reeds), Billy Sawford (piano), Ernie Weaver (drums).

Pat O'Malley is the singer on some of the band's records, and you can hear what a fine band the Embassy Six were on these two tracks here :
